Summary
- To start interviews you create a free account with Google or an email code. We keep your name, email address, how you signed up, when you sign in, and how many interviews you start and finish — nothing else.
- Your camera and microphone are processed in your browser. Video and audio are not sent to us or to anyone else.
- Question sets, session reviews and any recordings you choose to save are stored in your browser on your device. We cannot see them.
- Our hosting provider processes basic technical data (such as IP addresses) to deliver and protect the website.
Who is responsible
This website is operated by the operator of Prepare Interviews.Contact details are listed on the contact page.
Your account
You need a free account to start interviews (and to have questions written for a job description). You can sign up with Google — we receive your name, email address and Google account ID, and never your Google password — or with your email address and a password of your own, confirming the address with a one-time code we email you (sent through our email provider, Resend). Your password never reaches us: your browser scrambles it first with a slow one-way function (PBKDF2, 600,000 rounds), and we keep only a further one-way fingerprint of that. We store your name, email address, how you signed up, when you created the account and last signed in, how many times you have signed in, and how many interviews you have started and finished. We never store your answers, recordings, transcripts, scores, CV or job descriptions with your account. Email codes are kept only as a one-way fingerprint, for 10 minutes. When you type your email, we tell you whether it already has an account, so you see the right next step.
We use this to let you in, to protect the service from abuse, and to see how many people use it (only the site owner can see the list of accounts). Your sign-in is kept with a secure cookie for 30 days. You can delete your account at any time from Manage data and storage in the practice room: your name, email and counts are removed from our server at once. We do not sell or share your details, and we send no marketing email.
Camera and microphone
When you start a practice session, your browser asks for permission to use your camera and microphone. The live video and sound are used on your device to show your preview, measure your microphone level and — if you turned recording on — record your answers. They are not transmitted to our servers. You can withdraw permission at any time in your browser settings. Cameras and microphones are switched off when a session ends.
Recordings
Recordings contain only your own camera and microphone during your answers; the virtual interviewer is not recorded. After a session, recordings are held temporarily in your browser’s memory. They are kept only if you choose Save to this browser (stored in your browser’s IndexedDB storage on this device) or download them as files. Unsaved recordings are discarded when you close or reload the tab. You can delete saved recordings at any time from the review screen or from Manage data and storage.
Question sets, reviews and preferences
Your question sets, private notes, session reviews, comfort ratings and settings are stored in your browser (IndexedDB and local storage) on this device. They are not synchronised to other devices and we have no copy. Clearing your browser’s site data, using private browsing, or your browser freeing up space can delete them, so export anything important.
The interviewer’s voice
The interviewer always speaks in her own voice: an AI voice model (Kokoro, Apache-2.0) that we run ourselves. Her lines and our sample questions are recorded in advance and downloaded as audio files. Questions an AI writes from a job description (see below) are recorded by our voice renderer when they are written — it runs on GitHub’s servers (GitHub Actions) and receives only the questions, never your description, your name or anything else — and saved in our library with them, so any candidate who gets the same question hears it from there. Questions you type yourself (or that are built on your device) are voiced the same way when you open the camera check: only the sentences of the questions are sent — never your name, your notes, your answers or your recordings — and their audio is kept in our library under a one-way fingerprint of each sentence, so don’t type anything private into a question. If a question can’t be voiced in time, she asks you to read it on screen (an AI-written one is swapped for a question she has already recorded). Your browser’s built-in voices are never used.
Speech detection, transcripts and practice scores
During an interview, a small speech-detection model runs in your browser to notice when you have finished answering. If you choose “Analyse” after a session, a speech-to-text model (OpenAI Whisper) also runs in your browser to transcribe your recorded answers, and your practice score is calculated from that transcript. These models are downloaded from this website the first time you use them and then kept in your browser’s cache. Your audio, transcripts and scores stay on your device and are never sent to us or anyone else. Transcripts are saved with the session in your browser, and you can correct or delete them along with the session.
Once the speech-to-text model is on your device, it also transcribes each answer while you give it, so the interviewer can ask a follow-up about what the answer left out (for example its result). That transcript is used only to choose the follow-up, in your browser, and is not kept. Turn off Ask follow-up questions in the interview settings if you prefer.
Your introduction, stories, interview plan and CV
What you write in Introduction and stories, your interview plan, and a CV you paste or upload for the CV check are kept in your browser on this device only. A CV file is read in your browser and never uploaded; the check compares it with the job description on your device. You can remove your CV with Forget my CV, or everything with Manage data and storage.
Job descriptions
If you paste a job description to build an interview, the pasted text is kept as a draft in your browser so you don’t lose it, until you press Clear. The interview you create keeps only the role title, the skills the description lists and a fingerprint used to avoid repeating questions, on your device.
You choose who writes the questions. With “AI” (the default), the job description text is sent to our server together with short fingerprints of the questions you already had for it (so you get new ones), and the role, level and tools our page found in it. Our server first looks in our shared library of AI-written questions; if it needs new ones, it passes the description to an AI service to write them —Cloudflare Workers AI, or, if we have enabled them and they are free to use at that moment, Groq or Google’s Gemini API (whose free service may use what it is sent to improve Google’s products). If none is available and your browser has its own built-in AI (some desktop versions of Chrome), questions may be written by it, on your device.
What we keep: the questions an AI writes are saved in our question library (on Cloudflare), so other candidates practising the same job get them instantly. They are filed under a one-way fingerprint of the description and under its role, focus and level — the description itself is never stored or logged, and nothing about you, your answers or your recordings is ever sent. Remove names or anything private from a description before using AI anyway. With “This device”, questions are built from templates in your browser and the description is never sent anywhere (the questions themselves are voiced like any other, see above).
